1812, 5, 20. Joshua (Trublood), s Aaron, Pasquotank Co., m Mary Overman, at Newbegan Creek MH.

"...he was reared as a Quaker and m according to the Society of Friends,5-20-1812, at Newbegun MH, (1) Mary Overman... Joshua Trueblood rqct Piney Wood MM (Perquimans Co.) to m., 8-15-1829, (2) Jemima Lamb. The Perq. MM records:
1829, 9, 5. Joshua (Trueblood) prcf Symons MM
1829, 10, 3. Joshua rumored m to Jemima Lamb.
After the birth of their son, 1831, Jemima (Lamb) Trueblood of the Narrows (Pasq. Co.), 10-15-1831, requested to come under the care of the Meeting. (Probably Symons MM in Pasq. Co.); she must have died soon after this, although no record of her death date has been found.
Again Joshua requested a recommendation from Symons MM to Suttons MM, 9-21-1833, to m (3) Jemima Lane. The Suttons MM contains in their minutes:
1833, 10, --. Joshua Trueblood presents cert. from Symons Creek MM, m.
1833, 10, 16. Joshua Trueblood, son of Aaron and Milicent, Pasquotank Co., m Jemima Evens, Welles MH.
1834, 5, 10. Jemima Trueblood gct Symons Creek MM to remain with her husband.
Highlight: The original marriage certificate of Joshua Trueblood and Jemima Evens (or Evans) was sent by Wilson Trueblood to this writer and is being carefully preserved until it can be placed in a historical society library with other memos of Truebloods.
Joshua Tureblood and his brother Isaac Overman Trueblood made a trip to Washington Co., Indiana, in 1848; whether Joshua had moved his family to Indiana before this is unknown. James W. Trueblood, his son, had gct Spiceland MM in Henry Co., Indiana, 6-15-1844, and lived there for several years. James too had gone on to Washington Co. Indiana for a visit. Joshua Trueblood (first cousin to Aaron, father of Joshua, who had emigrated to Indiana in 1815, wrote in his Diary:

5-26-1843 James son of Joshua Trueblood from Pasquotank County, N. C. with Nathan Trueblood and Benona Morris were to see us today, to our satisfaction.

(This trip was made before James's gct Spiceland MM. He may have been only on a visit, or he may have requested the certificate after he settled in Henry County- -that was often the procedure.)

6-20-1848. Joshua Trueblood and his brother Isaac of North Carolina here today to our great satisfaction.

(Both notations seem to indicate that Joshua lived in North Carolina during these years between 1844 to 1848 and his trip to Indiana was only a visit. Joshua was still a member of the Symons Creek MM; Quakers traveled a great deal among the many meetings that had grown up in Indiana and other states.)

Controversy: The number of wives that Joshua had has been a topic of conjecture: Mrs. James Percy Trueblood says, "Four"; W. P. Johnson says, "Three"; Grace Trueblood says, "Four or five." This research has uncovered, thanks to Mr. Hinshaw, four authenticated marriages. If there was a fifth, my theory is that wife (3) Jemima (Evans) Trueblood died after the birth of mary Eliza; Joshua m wife (4) (name unknown) and they had Elihu, 1846. Elihu is not listed by Hinshaw with the other children of Joshua and his first three wives; he is in the Bible records of the descendants. Both Elihu and the mother must have died soon, ca. 1847. Thus Joshua was free for his trip and in search of wife (5).
Joshua m wife (4) or (5), probably in Henry Co., Indiana, where his son James W. was living and had married Emily Brock. Joshua, sixty years old, m in 1848 Margaret Brock, 22 years old, and they with James and his family returned to Pasquotank Co., N. C. The Society of Friends was apparently very much displeased with both father and son: (Pasq. MM records, Symons Creek MM)
1848, 7, 15. Spiceland MM, Henry Co., Ind. rq this mtg. to labor with James W. Trueblood for mcd within limits of this mtg.; complaint dropped.
1848, 12, 16. Joshua Trueblood con for his mcd.
Joshua Trueblood and Margaret (Brock) Trueblood were living in Pasquotank Co., 1850 (census);
Joshua Trueblood was the father of nineteen children; he passed away October 17, 1858." pg 54, 55

Acording to the Encylopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, two birth dates are shown. On page 122 it shows that on page 5-4 of the Pasquotank Monthly Meeting Records that he was born 2-6-1824, then on page 35-4 it shows his birth date as 7-6-1824. It's possible that the 7 date on page 35-4 was a misread 2. Use at you own discresion.
