Joseph Trueblood....Eighty Years of Age.....And sleeps in the Room Where He Was Born....(Not an obituary, but presented for the information contained) (The Republican Leader, September 10, 1897)
A very pleasant day was that of last Sunday, Sept. 5, at the beautiful home of Joseph Trueblood, two miles east of Salem on the Canton road, it being his eightieth birthday. About 45 of his relatives and friends gathered in to remind him of his birthday and they all brought well filled baskets. When the contents of these baskets were spread upon a long table there was a bounteous and elegant feast for all. Mr. Trueblood was born on the farm where he now lives. He was married to Semira B. Lindley in 1842. He lived on an adjoining farm for 30 years. At his father's death, over 30 years ago, he returned to the old homestead, living in the same house, sleeping in the same cozy room in which he first saw the light of day. A life-long member of the Society of Friends, regular in his attendance at meetings of worship and an earnest Sabbath school-worker. A liberal and kind-hearted man, a reader of good literature, he is well posted in the affairs of not only his own country but different nations of the world. He has three children, two sons and one daughter. Edward A., lives in Portland, Oregon, is a foreman in a large machine shop and has held this position for 15 years. Mary L. Hinshaw lives in Marion, Ind., and Lucius B., his oldest son, has been living on the farm with his father, taking care of his parents for near 30 years. Mr. Trueblood has 16 grand-children and 3 great-grandchildren. This birthday anniversary is one long to be remembered with great pleasure. Each guest wishing the venerable gentleman many more years of prosperity and happiness, departed for their respective homes, feeling glad they had been there.

JOSEPH TRUEBLOOD A native of the county of which he is now a resident, is a son of Nathan and Patience (Newby) Trueblood, who were natives of North Carolina, the former born October 31, 1781 and the latter in 1784. These parents were married in their native State and in 1815 immigrated Westward where land was cheaper and better. They settled in Washington County, Indiana Territory, where Mr. Trueblood died January 22, 1910, preceded by Mrs. Trueblood February 1, 1863. Joseph Trueblood, as did his father before him, has followed agricultural pursuits through life. He was born September 8, 1817, and February 10, 1842, led to the matrimonial altar Miss Semira B. Lindley, who was born in this county January 14, 1820. Mrs. Trueblood is a daughter of Samuel and Mary (Braxtan) Lindley, who were born in North Carolina December 28, 1771, and March 15, 1777, respectively. They immigrated to this county in 1811 when there were as many Indians as white people, and here Mr. Lindley died, February 11, 1853, and his wife, April 11, 1846. Mr. Trueblood is the owner of a fine farm, is a Republican in politics, and he and wife are members of the Friends Church, and parents of this family: Lucius B., Edmund A., Mary L. (Mrs. A. P. Hinshaw), and Elizabeth (deceased).
