"....died 2-28-1881 at the age of 94 years. Rebecca is the heroine of Sarah Morrison's book so often quoted in this chapter- -Sarah's Grandmother Morris. Rebecca was an orphan for fifteen years before her marriage to Benoni Morris, her mother having died in 1791, when Rebecca was four years old; her father in 1796, when she was nine years old. her father John J. m again in 1793 to Mary Griffin, and James and his twin (d birth) were born in 1794. Then during the year 1796, death struck three times; her father, her baby half brother John, and her own little sister Sarah. Mary's m in 1801, when Rebecca was 14 years old, left Rebecca very much alone. She lived with her stepmother and brother by turns. Rebecca was probably considered an "old maid" at 24 and Benoni, an "old bachelor" at 27 when they changed all that and were married at the Narrows MM, 9-5-1811 (or "8th mo., 1811).
Benoni and Rebecca Morris started with the Nathan Trueblood party to emigrate to Indiana in 1815; however, when they arrived in Randolph Co., N. C., they decided not to go on at that time. Nathan Trueblood had been instructed to buy a farm for benoni in Indiana. Although they may have stopped first in randolph Co. as reported by Sarah Mirrison, they were received from Symon's Creek MM by the Springfield MM, in Guilford Co., 6-3-1815. A son Jeptha (according to the Bible records) was born to them on "24th of 9th mo., 1816 in Randolph Co., N. C. On 3-5-1817, Benoni and Rebecca gct Blue River MM, Washington Co., Indiana, from Springfield MM, Guilford Co.
In a letter to Sarah Morrison, Robert Morris writes:

Their conveyance was a two-horse wagon drawn by two nice bay mares. . . I think they were just four weeks to a day making the trip, laying by Sundays. One of the party traveled on the sabbath, and was four days longer on the road, and his team reduced much more than theirs.

Rebecca and Benoni Morris lived with Nathan and Patience Trueblood until a home was built on the land that Nathan had bought for them. this farm was west of salem and across a considerable branch of Blue River. It had been selected for large cultivation and was gently rolling in nearl;y every direction.
The farm was a quarter section of arable land to which Benoni added to until it comprised many more acres. These were added to by his son Robert Morris, "until as far as eye could reach, and more, in most directions, was Grandpa's farm." They also owned what was known as the "Oak Woods," containing "a magnificent spring, which in later years Robert deeded to the town of Salem for water works."
