Notes for James TRUEBLOOD:

Notes taken from "The Trueblood Family in America" by Bula Trueblood Watson, copyright 1964.

"....Census Records in Ind." pg 23
"....may have been born in Pasquotank about 1784 and then moved with his parents to Camden Co., which was a part of Pasquotank Co., until after the Revolution. Census records lead to the conclusion that James was reared in Camden Co., m Nancy Coop in N. C., since their son James was born in N. C. in 1817.
The great-grandson, Augustus James Trueblood, related the story of his ancestor, James, who came to Indiana territory by means of a two-wheeled cart drawn by an oxen team, in 1804. He settled in the western part of Indiana in Vigo County. He married Nancy Coop in 1805 and a son was born to them in Vigo County.
Since this is a family tradition, the writer is not likely to refute the story; however, she must report the records as they are. The first census in Indiana, 1820, reports only two families in Vigo County: Caleb Trueblood with his wife, four children and one grandson; and Joseph, over 45, living alone. The history of Vigo Co., paints a tragic picture of the violent Indian massacres during this time , and early settlers had to leave for awhile until the trouble simmered down before reclaiming their land. It is very possible that James and Nancy went back to North Carolina, where their son James was born, 1817." pg 56
