James T Reynolds carpenter Prairieton Vigo County IN 1890

Obituary supplied by Pam Reynolds Lawhorn

James Trueblood Reynolds was born January 5,1852, and died February 5, 1917,
aged 65 years and one month. He was born on a farm near Prairieton, Indiana,
and was the eldest son of David and Ann Reynolds. He was united in marriage
to Alice M. McSherry, January 30, 1873. Eight children were born of this
union, Nellie M. Ferguson, who departed this life July 4, 1899; Grace A.
Cruse; Harold Reynolds; Hugh M. Reynolds; Anna Houseman; Katherine M.
Reynolds, and Pearl E. Graham. He expressed his faith and united with the ME
Church at Prairieton in 1872 and was an active member and faithful worker
until his removal to Terre Haute in 1893. He retained his membership in the
Prairieton Church, but of late had attended the Central Christian Church of
this city. Mr. Reynolds was a true Christian in every sense of the word and
a kind and loving husband and father. He was a man universally beloved by
all for his kind words and deeds. He was a most unselfish friend and his
every thought was to help others. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his
widow and children, one brother, Moses of Hesperia, Michigan; two sisters,
Mrs. L. D. Francis of Prairieton, and Mrs. Mary A. Mills of McNabb,
Illinois, and seven grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

There exists some confusion about whether the name should be Martha Alice or
Alice Martha. I believe she preferred to use Alice M., but that the name
really was Martha Alice. Martha's father Hugh McSherry was the enumerator of
the 1880 census for Vigo Co. and he has quite deliberate in the way that he
enumerated his family by writing the middle initial followed by the first
name. For example, his wife ~A. Mary~ (Mary Ann Greek McSherry) and ~A.
Martha~ (Martha Alice McSherry Reynolds)
