"...Civil War Records reveal the following:

John L. Trueblood. . . joined for duty and was enrolled as a pvt. of Company E. 85th Regiment, Indiana Volunteers at Praireton, Indiana, on 13th day of August 1862 by Lt. McAnderson, and he was mustered into the military service of the United States at Terre Haute, Indiana, on 2nd day of September 1862 for the term of three years by Lt. Morris, Mustering Officer. . . . Age 18 yrs. . . .Eyes Hazel. . .Hair Auburn- -Height 5 ft. 10 in.- -complexion fair. Nativity: Sullivan County, Indiana; occupation, farmer. . . .was wounded in Battle of Peachtree Creek, July 20/64 and died Aug. 3/64, in hospital, Kingston, Georgia.

Civil War records further report John L. Trueblood sick in hospital, Nashville, 1863; sick at New Albany, Ind. 1863; wounded and in a hospital in Chattanooga; died as stated above. The pathetic story of the remuneration for his life appears on his Muster-out Roll: "Dated near Washington, D. C., June 12, 1865. . . .Last paid to Dec 31, 1863. . . Last settled Aug. 31, 1863; drawn since $18.00. . . .Bounty paid $25.00; due $75.00." pg 143
